Guide to Traffic Signs
Mandatory Signs
These are compulsory. Disobeying them is an offence.
- Arrows: Indicate directions like “Turn right only” or “Keep left”.
- Stop Sign: You must stop before the white line and give way to traffic.
- Give Way: Slow down, stop if necessary, and yield to traffic on the major road.
Prohibitory Signs
- No Entry: Prohibits all vehicles.
- No Stopping: Stopping is strictly forbidden.
- No Waiting: Vehicles may stop only to allow boarding or alighting.
- Limits: Signs indicating width (e.g., 2.3m), height (e.g., 4.5m), or weight (e.g., 10 tonnes) limits must be obeyed .
Warning Signs
Take extra care and slow down.
- Bends: Warns of curves; do not overtake or park.
- Junctions: Warns of cross junctions, T-junctions, or Y-junctions ahead .
- Road Conditions: Warns of uneven roads, slippery surfaces, or humps .
Regulatory Signs
These regulate traffic movement, such as “Keep Left Unless Overtaking” or “Bus Lane” signs.
