Guide to Traffic Signs

Mandatory Signs

These are compulsory. Disobeying them is an offence.

  • Arrows: Indicate directions like “Turn right only” or “Keep left”.
  • Stop Sign: You must stop before the white line and give way to traffic.
  • Give Way: Slow down, stop if necessary, and yield to traffic on the major road.

Prohibitory Signs

  • No Entry: Prohibits all vehicles.
  • No Stopping: Stopping is strictly forbidden.
  • No Waiting: Vehicles may stop only to allow boarding or alighting.
  • Limits: Signs indicating width (e.g., 2.3m), height (e.g., 4.5m), or weight (e.g., 10 tonnes) limits must be obeyed .

Warning Signs

Take extra care and slow down.

  • Bends: Warns of curves; do not overtake or park.
  • Junctions: Warns of cross junctions, T-junctions, or Y-junctions ahead .
  • Road Conditions: Warns of uneven roads, slippery surfaces, or humps .

Regulatory Signs

These regulate traffic movement, such as “Keep Left Unless Overtaking” or “Bus Lane” signs.
