Driving in Special Zones and Tunnels
School Zones
Children are vulnerable road users.
- Slow down and be extra vigilant for children who may be blocked from view.
- Look out for “School Zone” signs and red textured road surfaces.
Silver Zones
These areas have enhanced safety features for senior pedestrians. Speed limits are often lower (e.g., 30 or 40 km/h). Enhanced penalties apply for offences committed here.
Driving in Tunnels
- Do: Turn on headlights and radio. Follow lane use signs.
- Don’t: Stop, U-turn, reverse, or refuel in a tunnel.
- Prohibitions: Vehicles carrying hazardous materials or those with a speed limit of 40km/h and below are not allowed.
